Jean Foillard Morgon “Courcelette” 2020
£33.00
As one of the gang of Four, Domaine Foillard can be truly considered one of the elites of Beaujolais, producing wines of such finesse and structure many strive to achieve. Jean Foillard is also one of the pioneers of the natural wine movement gathering traction, being dogmatic in his approach to vineyard and winery chemicals; that means, eschewing sulphur and copper, herbicides and pesticides in favour of presenting the wines and terroir as precisely as possible. Foillard is located around the village of Morgon, a cru of Beujolais which makes structured and wins of immense again potential, thanks to the layers of hard schist and granite soils, where gamey thrives. The Courcelette is made from a unique parcel of Morgon which has more sandstone than granite. The vines here are 80 years old, which means they’ve had time to establish themselves deep into the ground and produce wines of beautiful intensity and elegance. It’s ages for 6-9 months in old, large barrels with whole bunch fermentation - a wine which is wonderfully expressive.
