Benoît Moreau Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Maltroie 2021
£300.00
Since Benoît Moreau and his brother Alex divided their family’s exceptional vineyards holdings to establish their own domaines in 2019, Benoît has wasted no time in staking a claim as one of Burgundy’s most in-demand winemakers.
Benoît farms 4ha of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir across Chassagne-Montrachet, including vines in the distinguished 1er Crus ‘Les Fairendes’, ‘La Maltroie’, and ‘Les Grandes Ruchottes’.
A proponent of biodynamics and cutting-edge farming methods such as tressage – the laborious and highly skilled practice of braiding the vine canopy – Benoît is increasingly recognised as one of the Côte de Beaune’s most talented growers.
Pressed slowly and fermented using native yeasts, the domaine’s Chardonnays spend 18 months in barrel, their seductive aromatics and supple textures underscored by incredible energy and mineral tension, while Benoît uses light infusions to produce delicately perfumed Pinot Noirs that continue to fly under the radar of many Burgundy lovers, like most reds from Chassagne-Montrachet.
Building on a sensational debut vintage from his own vines in 2021, Benoît’s 2022s are impressing critics with their added refinement and finesse – as such, there are now few harder Burgundy allocations to secure.
